On 15 August, Berlin’s impressive Olympic Stadium will resound to the starting signal for the World Championships in Athletics. This will mark the beginning of nine days of high-performance sports, exciting duels, convincing victories and unexpected defeats, moments of great emotion, passion and fascination. The World Championships in Athletics will without doubt be the sporting highlight of 2009. By 23 August, around 1,800 athletes from 213 Member Federations of the International Association of Athletics Federations will have competed for medals in 47 disciplines at this top international event.

After 16 years, this – the world’s third most important sporting event – is to return to Germany. First-class facilities, a diverse accompanying programme at the stadium and throughout the city – for spectators and visitors – will make this race for medals an unforgettable experience for athletes, Germans and spectators from all over the world.

The Sightseeing Run on the World Championships Marathon Course

August 22, 2009 – the time has come. Just a few hours after the new men’s marathon world champion has been crowned at the 12th IAAF World Championships in Athletics berlin 2009™ and with just hours to go before the women’s title is decided, the starting shot will ring out for the 10 km Champions Run.

Everyone has a unique opportunity to run on the original World Championships marathon course, a 10 km sightseeing loop through the vibrant heart of Berlin, and to follow in the steps of the elite runners and the freshly crowned world champion.
