Great artists need great stages. All of the performances that require lots of space will take place at the Festival Stage. Performers such as Patrice, Blue Man Group, the Nigel Kennedy Quintet, Mark Scheibe & The Berlin Revue Orchestra, Hennes Bender, the Staatsballett Berlin and many others can be enjoyed here. With the help of large screens, even those at the back of the crowd will be able to follow the happenings on the stage.
The Festival Stage will open each day following the IAAF Hour, with concerts, dance, performance and comedy.
For the more intimate shows, there is the SAMSUNG Champions Lounge. Famous chefs will prepare fresh and delicious food in the World Championships Cooking Studio, which can be tasted here and then reproduced at home. During various discussion rounds and exclusive autograph hours, fans can meet the top stars of the Championships up close and in person. Installations based on the individual daily topics will provide interesting infotainment. The stage is accessible and gives the audience a chance to be close to the action.
During the programme breaks, visitors can find out more about the structure of the IAAF, the nations participating, and the various track and field disciplines on Internet terminals that will be accessible all day long.
In addition to the on-stage programmes, the entire square at Pariser Platz itself will become a stage. Daily between 2 and 6 p.m. , street performers will entertain the spectators with acrobatics, variété and clown shows. The ongoing "street theatre" is being presented in cooperation with " Berlin lacht! e.V.".
Together with the Germany Athletics Association (DLV), children and youth will have the opportunity every day between 2 and 10 p.m . to test themselves in various modules of the DLV BewegungsModule. They can exhaust themselves hopping, hone their coordination skills by tapping, or try out the javelin simulator to see if they can keep with the top athletes. On five days of competition there will be an additional interactive programme with tips and advice on how to run properly. In cooperation with the University of Potsdam , young and old alike can get their running style analysed between 2 and 6 p.m.
On Youth Day, August 17, the children and youth in Berlin are being called upon to participate in a charity run as part of the project "Lebensläufe", in which they will run as many laps as possible to collect donations for a school meals project in Mali. The race will take place from 1 to 2 p.m. ; registration is possible online at www.welthungerhilfe.de or directly at the square in the Welthungerhilfe tent.
An additional athletic highlight are the planned relay races on the blue track around the KulturStadion® that will take place on Fan Day, August 19, and on One-World Day, August 20. The blue track of the KulturStadion® will become a competition venue. Visitors can sign up on-site with their spontaneous relay teams of four to race against three other teams for great prizes.
Founded by Elector Frederick III in 1696 as the "Academie der Mahler-, Bildhauer- und Architectur-Kunst" (Academy for the Art of Painting, Sculpting and Architecture), the historical Academy of the Arts is now located (since 2005) on the south side of Pariser Platz in the modern glass architecture created by Günter Behnisch. Numerous cultural activities will take place here on the occasion of the 12 th IAAF World Championships in Berlin: the open-air photo exhibition "In Motion" (Athletics and Photography 1884-2009) will continue in the "Passage" of the Academy of the Arts; the Berlin Film Festival "actung berlin" will be presenting an interesting and informative film programme about East German sport history on monitors in the foyer; and in the Sarah Wiener Café, there will be a stage for the recitation of various books: actors will read sports literature!
