On Friday, May 29, 2009, Berlino welcomed the guests on the red carpet at the 10th anniversary gala event, the Golden Sports Pyramid, at the Adlon Hotel in Berlin.

“We are pleased to be here at the Golden Sports Pyramid gala together with Berlino to promote the most important sporting event of the world in the year 2009,” said Dr. Clemens Prokop, Executive President of the World Championships’ Organising Committee and President of the German Athletics Association (DLV) in preparation of the event. “We have already participated in various joint activities with the German Sports Aid foundation (Stiftung Deutsche Sporthilfe), with our involvement in the gala event “Ball des Sports” and in the sales of the commemorative postage stamp series “For Sports” (Für den Sport) with motifs from the world of athletics, and we can look forward to excellent cooperation in the future.”

The Golden Sports Pyramid is a lifetime achievement prize that has been awarded by the German Sports Aid foundation since the year 2000 to a prominent sports personality for his or her athletic, professional, and social accomplishments. Famous recipients of the award include Franz Beckenbauer and Steffi Graf.
