BOC 2009 and Infront start marketing campaign for berlin 2009™
The organising committee for the 12th IAAF World Championships in Athletics berlin 2009™ (BOC 2009 GmbH) has set the course; the contracts with the participating licence distributors have been negotiated and signed. Working with the Swiss agency Infront Sports & Media AG, who were appointed as national marketing agency, the BOC has launched the marketing campaign for the third most important sporting event in the world 26 months ahead of the event, which will take place from 15th until 23rd August 2009 in the Berlin Olympic stadium. To this end, the BOC has been granted the rights to sell licences in a number of categories.
The host of the championships, the IAAF, through its worldwide exclusive commercial partner the Japanese agency Dentsu, lead and manage the commercial programme of the event. Dentsu offers long-term worldwide sponsorship opportunities and has made a separate agreement with the BOC for the national marketing programme. Infront, in conjunction with the executive board of the BOC comprising Heiner Henze, his deputy and General Secretary Heinrich Clausen and Marketing Director Laurens Lipperheide, will bear responsibility for distributing these licences. As part of the co-ordination between the existing and future global and the national partners a wide-ranging selection of sectors and product categories have been defined, within the scope of which the BOC is permitted to work.>
The organising committee will participate in the financial benefits of the contracts arising from their co-operation with Dentsu. Apart from funding from the state of Berlin and the sale of entrance tickets, earnings from marketing represent the third most important source of revenue for financing the only major event in 2009 being held in the centre of Europe.
