On the opening day of the ITB (Internationale Tourismus Börse) tourism trade show, the mayor of Berlin and the decathlete André Niklaus visited the stand of the World Championships in Athletics at the ITBand inquired personally about the status of the preparations for the World Championships with the managing director of the BOC 2009 organising committee, Heinrich Clausen.

As the mayor of the hosting city-state of Berlin, Klaus Wowereit demonstrated a special interest: “I am looking forward to the excellent sporting event that will be presented to us next year in the Olympic Stadium and can only say: ‘Everyone come to Berlin for the World Championships in Athletics!’”

André Niklaus , Germany ’s best decathlete also paid a visit to the stand at the ITB. The 26-year-old reigning indoor world champion in the decathlon is also very much looking forward to the World Championships in his home town: “The World Championships in Berlin will certainly be the highlight of my career. After the Olympic Games in Beijing , my thoughts and anticipation are directed completely to the World Championships in Athletics in 2009 in Berlin .”

Throughout the entire ITB, the berlin 2009™ organising committee will be presenting the event at its booth in Hall 14.1 at the Messe Berlin fairgrounds.

Heinrich Clausen views the activities of the BOC 2009 at the world’s largest tourism trade show very positively: “With 500,000 fans in the Olympic Stadium and a billion spectators watching on television, the World Championships in Athletics will be the absolute athletic highlight next year. A unique link between tourism and the city of Berlin is created at the ITB. This is an excellent opportunity for us to present information about berlin 2009™ and to distribute our new ticket flyer and let people know that starting on April 2, one can purchase day tickets for next year’s largest worldwide sporting event for between 20 and 75 euros.“
